Deva Racing is delighted to offer shares in the exciting Duc de Kent! The three-year-old Zelzal gelding has already finished placed in Listed company in France and has recently joined leading Worcestershire trainer Ian Williams with an ambitious

international campaign on his agenda.

Until recently trained in France by Fabrice Vermeulen, Duc de Kent demonstrated distinct promise in five starts as a two-year-old. Although he didn’t quite get his head in front, he was never out of the first four and finished second at Chantilly on his final run of 2022. He returned to action early in the New Year on the ultra-competitive Cagnes-sur-Mer winter circuit, breaking his maiden over 7½ furlongs in February and then defeating the classy Al Barq in a 1m2f conditions race later the same month. That success earned Duc de Kent a step up to Listed level in the Prix Omnium II, in which he acquitted himself well in fifth behind the subsequent Group 3 winner and Group 1 Poule d’essai des Poulains fourth American Flag. Things did not go to plan on his next start in a Group 3 contest behind the top-class Big Rock – subsequently second in the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club – but just two starts later Duc de Kent earned valuable black-type when second in the Listed Derby du Midi at Bordeaux.

That was to be his final run for the Vermeulen yard before his transfer to the Williams stable via the Arqana Deauville Summer Mixed Sale. He possesses a strong pedigree in addition to high-class form on the track, as he is a grandson of the top-class broodmare En Public, who has produced no less than five black-type-winners. Duc de Kent has joined a pioneering trainer with an outstanding track record for campaigning horses internationally, and lucrative races in Dubai and Bahrain are set to figure in upcoming plans.

Ian’s previous international successes include Sir Maximilian in a Group 3 sprint at Meydan in 2015, and he returned to the same track to win a £50,000 handicap with talented stayer Enemy in January of this year. Indeed, the same horse earned over £400,000 for finishing second in a 1m7f Group 3 handicap in Saudi Arabia on his next start, and these are the type of riches that Duc De Kent will target early next year. Such is Ian's commitment to international racing that he has recently announced plans to open up a satellite yard in Dubai this winter, and Duc de Kent and his owners could be the key beneficiaries of this bold and exciting scheme. That barn will allow easy access to racing across the Gulf, where there are countless opportunities for horses of Duc de Kent’s ability over the winter months.

Here we have a horse who stays 1m2f and will surely get further, has the ability to contest smart races in Europe, and will surely continue improving, and who has joined a team renowned for success on the international stage. All the ingredients are in place for an exciting adventure with Duc de Kent
