greatness awaits

Trainer: Ben Pauling

The five-year-old Clodovil gelding Greatness Awaits is a talented dual-purpose performer trained by Ben Pauling in the Cotswolds.

The Pauling team has risen towards the very top of the NH ladder in recent seasons, with Ben sending out well over 150 winners during the past couple of campaigns from his purpose-built Naunton Downs stable.

Twice a winner at up to 1m4f on the Flat for his previous stable, Greatness Awaits made his debut over hurdles midway through the 2022/23 season. He displayed promise on that occasion at Ludlow, where his finishing position was compromised by a slipping saddle, then finished second in a 2m novice hurdle at Kelso.

Soon switched to handicap company, he would again earn a silver medal at Market Rasen in August of last year, keeping on gamely having been prominent throughout. Given a break after that run, he returned with two midfield finishes over hurdles in January/February and has since run with real promise in a trio of 1m6f/2m handicaps back on the Flat at Chelmsford and Nottingham.

Ben Pauling says: ‘Greatness Awaits came from the Flat with a rating of 71 and he was a horse we were really quite excited about in his juvenile hurdling season. Now we’ve got our handicap mark, it’s given us many options, and I think he’s well enough handicapped to go and win at least a few, and then we’ll take it from there. He jumps well and has a great attitude.’

Greatness Awaits is now rated just 3lbs above his last winning Flat rating of 67, so can surely add to his tally in that sphere soon. Equally, a hurdles rating of just 97 vastly underestimates his ability.

A half-brother to the three-time winner Poeta Brasileiro (Poet’s Voice) and from a tremendous German family, Greatness Awaits has all the attributes required to win plenty of races in the Deva Racing silks in the future. We look forward to seeing him back in action soon.
