Devasboy

Trainer: Ian Williams

The three-time winner Devasboy, trained by Ian Williams in Worcestershire, is a genuine and consistent performer who can win plenty more races for his enthusiastic band of owners.

Sourced at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sales in April 2021, the now five-year-old is out of the Verglas mare Belliflore, who won on her two-year-old debut and was later third in the Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest. She is the dam of several other winners, most notably the Listed-winning two-year-old and Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere fourth Boitron

Devasboy is a son of the Haras du Lion-based sire Ectot, winner of the Gr1 Criterium International and Gr.1 Turf Classic, and sire of numerous smart performers.

Initially trained by Mark and Charlie Johnston in Middleham, Devasboy was fourth at Glorious Goodwood on his racecourse debut. He went on to win a 7f Brighton novice on his third start and doubled his tally in a Newcastle handicap over the same trip as a three-year-old. He remained admirably consistent for the remainder of the 2022 season, also winning a competitive 7½f Chester handicap in midsummer and climbing to a peak official rating of 81.

Gelded and moved to the Ian Williams yard ahead of the 2023 campaign, Devasboy has continued to demonstrate glimpses of his potential. He was runner-up in a 1m Windsor handicap last April, third at Chester in July, and then second again at Southwell in February of this year.

Despite such positive performances, Devasboy has slipped to a career-low mark of 59, and it is only a matter of time before he takes advantage. That means he is operating from a mark some 22lb below his peak and we know he has not regressed that much in such a short space of time.

Effective from 7f-1m, and on varying types of turf and the all-weather, Devasboy is a reliable and consistent sort that runs regularly, and he is sure to give us plenty more excitement in the future.
