Destinado
Trainer: James Owen
Destinado, a winning 6 year old gelding by Lope De Vega, is trained by James Owen in Newmarket, renowned as the 'Home of Horse Racing.'
He is out of the Champs Elysees mare Contribution, who won a conditions race at 3 before finishing placed in multiple Group races. He is half-brother to the talented mare Agave who won her first three starts including the Group 3 Prix Penelope. Lope De Vega, the sire, demonstrated his prowess as a high-class 2-year-old, ultimately claiming victory in the French 2,000 Guineas and Derby. He has since emerged as a preeminent sire globally, boasting 209 stakes performers, comprising 19 Group 1 winners, 67 Group winners, and over 50 Black Type horses in 2023.
Commencing his racing journey in France under Francis-Henri Graffard, Destinado transitioned to Tony Carroll after being acquired at the 2021 Tattersalls July Sale. Under Carroll's guidance, he consistently performed before attaining his maiden triumph in early 2023.
