Addosh

Addosh, our fabulously consistent and versatile seven-year-old mare by The Gurkha, has three wins to her credit over hurdles and two on the Flat. She is trained in Newmarket by James Owen

A winner at Thirsk as a three-year-old for Hugo Palmer, Addosh then moved to the NH yard of Buckinghamshire-based trainer Stuart Edmunds and made her debut over timber in August 2021.

She opened her account over obstacles in a juvenile hurdle at Market Rasen that September before unseating three out in the Listed Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle at Wetherby a month later, travelling like the winner at the time of her departure. The eventual winner, Porticello, went on to win the Gr.1 Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow later in the season, confirming the high level of the form.

Addosh struggled with her jumping for a time after that but continued to show bundles of talent. She fell at the last in a Gr.2 juvenile hurdle at Cheltenham when still in contention for at least a place and then fell at the final flight in a Listed hurdle at Aintree.

Given a break and wind surgery, she returned to win another juvenile hurdle at Huntingdon in March 2022 before finishing third in the Gr.3 handicap for juvenile fillies at the Cheltenham April meeting, earning valuable black type in the process. Another success followed at Stratford two starts later, where she demolished her rivals in a 2m handicap hurdle by six lengths.

Addosh couldn’t add to that success in June 2022 for the next couple of years but consequently looked well-handicapped under both codes when joining the powerful James Owen yard last summer. She was third over 1m2f at Nottingham on her stable debut and then a neck second over hurdles at Newton Abbot two outings later. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for her to open her account for the Deva Racing team, relishing the step up to 2m½f when winning a 0-55 flat handicap by two and a half lengths at Wolverhampton in October.

She begins the new year rated 60 on the Flat and 101 over hurdles, both of which look lenient considering that she was rated in excess of 120 over jumps at one point. Addosh has made a fine start to her career in Deva Racing silks and there should be plenty more excitement in store this year.
