Winding Roe

Deva Racing is delighted to offer for sale shares in the five-year-old gelding Winding Roe. A son of the increasingly prominent Vinnie Roe and placed in a good Navan bumper on his debut, this smashing youngster is ‘highly recommended’ by his Cheshire-based Grand National winning trainer Donald McCain. He was recently third on his hurdling debut at Bangor and can only improve for that outing. The trainer is excited by this horse’s prospects and commented: ‘This horse is by a sire I have a lot of time for, he finished very well in a Navan bumper that has worked out very well. His work is good and his schooling is going well. I would expect him to give the syndicate plenty of sport and success in the very near future.’ Deva Racing Manager Ryan Tongue takes up the story:’Winding Roe is a very well-bred gelding by Vinnie Roe who showed lots of promise in an Irish bumper, staying on nicely behind two Gordon Elliott inmates, with the second going on to win next time out. He’s sure to progress with plenty more experience and I feel he will be perfect for our syndicate.’ These positive bulletins are backed up by a compelling pedigree. Out of the point-to-point winner Brown Sheila, Winding Roe is closely related on the distaff side to the Grade-2 placed chaser Dance Island and the prolific Grade-2 winning chaser Calling Wild, whilst the further family extends back to the Cheltenham Festival-winning chaser Celtic Giant, the Rowland Meyrick hero Gunner Welburn and the Sun Alliance Hurdle runner-up Spider’s Well.A fine tail line is complemented by the developing influence of the sire Vinnie Roe. A four-time winner of the Grp-1 Irish St Leger during his racing career, his record with his NH produce gets better season after season. His best performers to this point include the Grade-2 Noel Novices’ Chase winner Vinndication and the ill-fated Neon Wolf, who won the Grade-2 Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock prior to being narrowly denied in Grade-1 company at the Cheltenham Festival on his final start. Winding Roe has been recruited from the renowned Mags Mullins nursery and, as has already been referenced, his debut effort was abundantly promising. Combine that and his winning pedigree with his evident size, scope and athleticism, his excellent temperament and the speed he has been showing at home, and it is fair to comment that he rates a high-class prospect. Deva Racing is a successful partnership that has accumulated a record of 75 victories and over £500,000 in win and place prize money in recent years, thanks to the exploits of horses including Cappo Rosso, Shantaluze and What Happens Nowand trainers Donald McCain and Tom Dascombe.
