Marine One

Deva Racing is delighted to offer you the opportunity to take a share in the very exciting five-year-old Marine One, a son of the mighty Frankel who is set to go into training with Grand National winning trainer Dr Richard Newland! Deva Racing has long since established a reputation as one of Britain’s premier racing syndicates, and the success has come thick and fast in 2019 under both codes. Epaulement bagged a £14k flat handicap at Haydock in September and is now set to take his owners on an exciting adventure to the Dubai Carnival, whilst Winding Roe was a recent six-length winner at Kelso for the NH wing of the operation. The purchase of Marine One sees Deva link up for the first time with the exceptionally-talented Worcestershire-based trainer Dr. Richard Newland. Although most famous for masterminding the 2014 Grand National victory of Pineau de Re, the ‘good doctor’ has accumulated some astonishing results across the board over the past ten years or so. Renowned for the shrewd placing of his string and an uncanny ability to revive the fortunes of horses that have gone sour elsewhere, Dr. Newland enjoyed a career-best 53 winners during the 2018/19 jumps season at an eye-catching strike rate of 24%. Not one to rest on his laurels, he has already notched up an incredible 47 winners this season and a recent move to a top-of-the-range new facility will allow him to double the number of horses in his care. One such horse will be Marine One, who was picked up by Deva Racing manager Ryan Tongue at the Goffs UK Autumn HIT Sale and looks extremely well bought. He was bred by Qatar Racing and represents some blue chipbloodlines. The dam Marine Bleue was a Grp-3 winner in Germany, whilst her Listed-winning daughter Marina Piccola is responsible for this season’s Grp-1 Grosser Preisvon Berlin winner French King. Crucially, another near-relation is the black-type earning jumper Black Quartz, so clearly this is a high-class family that can excel under both codes. Marine One was originally in training with David Simcock in Newmarket, for whom he placed in novice company at Kempton, Newcastle, and Chelmsford before he transferred across the Irish Sea to Denis Hogan. He got off the mark in a mile and a half Dundalk maiden in December of last year and has also been given a handful of spins over hurdles. Although he, unfortunately, fell on his hurdling debut, Marine One went on to demonstrate the benefit of that experience by placing in a pair of maiden hurdles at Kilbeggan. He has now had four starts in total over hurdles, is heading for an extremely lenient official handicap rating, and he looks to be just the sort of horse that Dr Newland thrives with. Just a handful of Frankels have gone jumping so far, but their number includes the 132-rated four-time winner Solo Saxophone, and they clearly have the scope and stamina required to do well at the winter game. We have had plenty of interest in Marine One so please get in touch if you are interested.
