He is out of the prolific Astarabad mare Chuchoteuse, who won a total of eight races over obstacles including twice in Listed company. She is a full-sister to the high-class former Nicky Henderson inmate Whisper, who was a dual Grade-1 and Coral Cup–winning hurdler, prior to scoring in Grade-2 company and placing at the highest level over fences.
Another of Cuchoteuse’s full-siblings, Asta Belle, would go on to produce the 2020 Grade-1 Stayers’ Hurdle hero Lisnagar Oscar, whilst the extended family features the Grade-3 winning and Grade-1 placed chaser Subehargues.
The aforementioned Lisnagar Oscar is one of numerous examples of Astarabad’s prowess in the broodmare sire division. His daughters are also responsible for the Grade-3 winning novice chaser Moulin A Vent, the dual Grade-1 winning French hurdler Hippomene and the recent Badger Beers Trophy hero El Presente.
This youngster clearly hails from an outstanding family on the distaff side and is by a sire who continues to go from strength to strength.
Racing in the famous green and red silks of the Aga Khan, Montmartre was a scintillating four-length winner of the Grp-1 Grand Prix de Paris as a three-year-old, on what proved to be his final racecourse appearance.
In the five years since his runners began to appear under NH rules in significant numbers he has been represented by the Grade-1 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Labaik, the dual Grade-1 winning juvenile hurdler Petite Parisienne, the Grade-2 Kennel Gate Novices’ Hurdle victor Capitaine andthe Grade-2 winning novice chasers Bigmartre and Elimay.
He stood the 2020 covering season at a joint career-high fee of €6,500 and his offspring have auctioned for sums including €310,000 and €210,000 in recent times – figures which indicate the exceptional regard in which the stallion is held.
With good looks and a pedigree dripping with quality, this two-year-old rates an outstanding long-term prospect.
