Glorious Zoff got the Deva Racing team of the mark for the year on Friday night, when running out a decisive winner of the 1m4f handicap at Dundalk.
The Gordon Elliott trained 4-year-old has shown a high level of form over hurdles since he joined the master trainer earlier this season. But with the with the ground being saturated at most courses in Ireland currently, the decision was made to try and make use of his lenient looking flat mark.
Sam Ewing, who rode Glorious Zoff to victory, is relatively unknown this side of the Irish Sea but he is making waves in Ireland and it is easy to see why. The 16-year-old has a wise head on young shoulders, and he gave Glorious Zoff a polished and mature ride that beside his young age.
After being drawn in the car park, on a horse that was tackling 1m4f for the first time, he decided to take his time and even manged to bag the inside rail. Once they turned for home and he was able to get a clear run there was always only winner and the pair eventually ran out a cosy half-length winner.
It was great to see Glorious Zoff back to his best after getting stuck in the mud at Doncaster last time, and it has yet to have been decided whether he will go straight to the Cheltenham Festival or have one more run at Dundalk beforehand.
