After the frustration of having two non-runners over the weekend our attentions turn to Fakenham on Monday, where Christian Williams saddles two horses for the Deva team.
Chesterfield King is the first to go to post when contesting the 1:15 and he looks to build on what was an eye catching performance at Exeter 3 weeks ago. The son of Kalanisi wasformally a smart horse in Ireland, and he looked to have re-found that form last time out, until he unfortunately lost his jockey two from home. That was over a stiff 3 miles and the drop back in trip to 2m5f looks tailormade for him.
The forecast rain that is due on track is a bonus with the majority of his best form being on soft ground, which he is yet to have found here in Britain. Jack Tudor who must be the best 3lb claimer riding at the moment is reunited with him and this can only be a positive.
We then move on to the last race on the card where Goldencard looks to go one better than over course and distance just under two weeks ago. He had been disappointing since he joined the Deva ranks in the summer, but the application of blinkers last time looked to have rejuvenated him. A dual winner over hurdles last season, his ability has never been questioned and we hopeful that he can build on that promising run last time out.
Again, the forecast rain should hold no fears and may even enhance his chances as a quick 2 miles is possibly on the short side for him these days.
