Both Goldencard and Monjeni ran promising races yesterday, with both horses finishing in the money.
It was especially great to see Goldencard find some of his old form, when a battling second at Fakenham. He jumped with more fluency than had been the case on previous runs this season and although he got outpaced around the sharp 2 miles, he stuck his head down and battled back bravely to get back up for second. It is very possible that he has lost a yard of pace and a step up in trip could be the way forward. After this run you would have to be positive and it should not be long until he gets his head back in front.
Monjeni yet again gave his owners a fine run, when finishing fourth on the all-weather at Newcastle. The lack of early pace did not suit and consequently he was caught short of toe when the pace quickened turning for home, but Monjeni is nothing if not brave and galloped strongly to the line to eventually finish a fast finishing fourth. A strong stayer on the flat, he looks made for hurdles but with the winter weather coming in, he may have to wait until the spring.
In the meantime he will continue to ply his trade on the flat and looks sure to give his owners much fun over the upcoming months.
