Dubheen Looks To Take Off, Where Goldencard Left Off
by Ryan Tongue
10th June 2021

It was fantastic to see Goldencard finally manage to break his duck for Deva Racing at Fontwell yesterday and reward his loyal owners in the process.

Christian Williams’ inmate was the model of consistency throughout the middle part of last season however, a dip in form since the turn of the year ensured that he was discounted by many going into yesterday’s race. Nevertheless, Christian was confident beforehand that the recent warm weather that the Glamorgan coast has been receiving, had helped Goldencard turn a corner and he was duly proven correct.

Jumped out at the head of the pack by the brilliant Jack Tudor, Goldencard put in an exhibition of jumping and as they turned for home on the last occasion it was only the obstacles that were standing in the way of a deserved success. Thankfully, the duo jumped the final three fences in an exemplary manner and eventually crossed the line 6 lengths clear of their nearest rival.

The handicapper is sure to have his say after this easy victory, however, we are confident that Goldencard will have regained his confidence and will no doubt be hard to beat, when next seen in action.

After a busy and rather successful recent period for the Deva Racing horses, Dubheen is set to carry the momentum through, when he goes to post the 2m4f Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter this evening (8.10).

Trained by Dr Newland, Dubheen has not had the easiest start to his career for Deva Racing due to carrying a virus. This illness prevented Dubheen from showing his true talent when first seen in the red and blue silks but thankfully, a short rest period and a couple of sympathetic rides from Charlie Hammond, have helped Dubheen to rediscover his confidence.

Dr Newland has reported that Dubheen worked as well as he has ever worked, in his final piece of work on Saturday and he also schooled extremely well under today’s jockey, Cillin Leonard, earlier in the week.

All this, added to the fact he looks certain to improve for today’s greater stamina test, mean that it would not be the biggest surprise in the world, if he were to out run his odds later this evening.
