Captain Tom Cat Makes Chase Debut
by Ryan Tongue
14th May 2021

Captain Tom Cat makes his eagerly awaited chasing debut, when contesting the 2m4f Handicap Chase (5.50) at Aintree this evening.

The son of Dylan Thomas has been thrown in at the deep end and tackling the famous Mildmay fences at Aintree is certainly no easy feat for any horse, let alone a horse making his chasing debut. Nevertheless, Dr Newland would not be running him if he did not think that he was up to the challenge and his recent schooling session under Sam Twiston-Davis, went without any hiccups. Furthermore, he ran in four Irish Point to Points as a young horse and that experience will not have been lost on him.

Ever since he won his first Novice Hurdle in July last year, both Sam Twiston-Davis and Dr Newland were convinced that he would make up into a better horse over fences therefore, running him over the bigger obstacles has long been a plan.

Make no mistake we are under no illusions, this will be an extreme test of his jumping and the experienced handicappers will try and put his jumping under pressure nevertheless, we would not swap Captain Tom Cat for anything today.
