A Day To Remember

Marine One gave everyone involved in him a day to remember on Saturday, when winning The Prelude Listed Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen.

This hard-fought success meant it was a day of firsts for many. It gave our sponsored jockey, Cillin Leonard, a first big race success, as well as giving Frankel his first stakes winner over jumps, as a sire. Finally, it gave us at Deva Racing our first listed winner!

For a relatively inexperienced jockey Cillin gave the horse a brilliant, power packed ride. A ride the legendary Tony McCoy, who was Cillin idol growing up, would have been proud of.

Turning in for home Marine One was seventh and off the bridle, seemingly struggling and victory looking unlikely. However, after jumping two out Marine One’s abundant stamina kicked in and he started to rally. He jumped the lasthurdle like it was the first and this meant that he only had one horse left in front of him. Nevertheless, he still had 3 lengths to make up on the lightly raced and clearly improving, Pisgah Pike, for the Jamie Snowden team.

It was not until the very last stride where Cillin managed to get Marine One’s game head in front. It was such a tough performance by both horse and jockey and one we will never forget. The future looks bright for both and with a bit of luck, big race success will be around the corner this season.

Our other runner on Saturday was Capo Bay, at Haydock. He was making his racecourse debut in what looked a hot noviceand he put up a bold performance on his first day at school.

He eventually finished eighth, but this does not do his performance justice. He was slow out of the stalls, which was to be expected but travelled through the race very efficientlyand it was not until the last furlong where his weakness showed, and he got tired. He is sure to come on a ton for this outing both physically and mentally, and it looks like he will make up into a very nice three-year-old.
