A Busy Day Beckons
by Ryan Tongue
6th May 2021

We head to the midlands today, where we have three runners for three different trainers at a relatively unused Worcester racecourse.

Goldencard kicks the day off for us when tackling the opening race on the card (1.00) – 2 mile Handicap Chase. He was the model of consistency throughout the middle of last season, racking up three seconds in a row. Although, he has been a touch disappointing the last twice, there have been legitimate reasons why and Christian Williams is confident that he will show his true form once again today. Unfortunately, Jack Tudor got injured in a fall at Newton Abbot yesterday and is unable to ride (we send our best wishes to Jack) however, we have been able to get a very able deputy in Nick Scholfield.

High Change is a new recruit for Deva Racing and today is very much a fact-finding mission with him. He was previously trained by Charlie Hills and had some very decent form in novice hurdles last summer, most notably when finishing a close third behind our very own, Captain Tom Cat. His homework has been promising and Dr Newland is very happy with him however, the trip of 2m4f is an unknown and this race is a building block to bigger and better things this summer. Sam Twiston-Davis gets the leg up and this race is live on ITV Racing at 2.30.

Our final runner on the card is the Jonjo O’Neill trained, Flames Of Passion, in the Mares Novices Hurdle at 3.05. She was purchased after finishing an eye catching second in an Irish point to point at Ballyarthur, last March. However, she picked up a couple of niggling injures throughout last season and has been unable to run up until now. Due to having so long of the course, Jonjo expects her to improve for the run and today is all about reminding her what being a racehorse is all about.

Nevertheless, she has now got over those injuries and it is great that she is finally able to make her debut for her very patient owners.
