Deva Racing presents an exciting opportunity to take sharesin a terrific NH prospect purchased at the Arqana Sales in France in November. Oxygen, a two-year-old son of the leading NH sire Martaline, is set to go into training with former three-time Champion Jockey David Cottin from his burgeoning training establishment in France.
Oxygen is out of the winning Presenting mare Bella Lawena, who counts amongst her numerous winning siblings the classy Grade-2 placed Vieux Lille. Their second dam Park Breezewas an outstanding NH producer, who foaled no less than five stakes–performing progeny.
Park Breeze’s best runner was unquestionably the four-time Grade-1 winning chaser The Listener, though she was also responsible for the Grade-1 winning novice chaser Offshore Account, the Grade-3 and Cheltenham Festival–winning chaser Fork Lightning and the Grade-2 winning novice chaser Distant Thunder, amongst others.
Indeed, such is the reach of this storied family that Park Breeze’s maiden daughter Lightning Breeze would go on to produce the top-class Yorkhill, a Grade-1 winner over hurdles and fences at the Cheltenham Festival.
The exceptional quality of this tail line will not be let down by the influence of the covering sire Martaline. A Grp-2 winning stayer on the flat when trained by Andre Fabre, he has since developed into one of the most potent NH sires to stand in France.
His early crops featured such stellar names as Ryanair Chase hero Dynaste and Albert Bartlett winner Very Wood, with the momentum continuing in a similar vein more recently. He seems to be represented by multiple high-class performers each season, notably the Grade-1 winning chasers Disko and Terrefort, and Grade-1 winning hurdlers such as We Have a Dream and Kotkikova.
It is also worthy of a mention that one of his best performers in recent times, the 2020 Grade-1 Grande Course de Haies d’Auteuil victor Paul’s Saga, is trained by none other than David Cottin. That gives Oxygen’s trainer crucial prior knowledge of the sire and the traits of his offspring.
This impressive physical specimen has an outstanding profile on paper and will surely develop into a top-class jumper in the years to come. He seems sure to give Deva Racing members plenty of thrills in the years ahead.
