The seven-year-old gelding Harlow is an exciting new recruitfor Deva Racing. He is based with the successful dual-purpose trainer Ian Williams at the state-of-the-art Dominion Racing Stables in Worcestershire.
A son of the leading US sire Harlan’s Holiday and out of a very well-related Dansili mare, Harlow began his career with Hugo Palmer, for whom he won a Newcastle maiden by five lengths on his racecourse debut at three.
He earned a rating of 84 after that scintillating breakthrough success and continued to run well throughout his three-year-old season, before transferring to Ireland where he had a brief spell over hurdles for Tony Martin.
Harlow eventually joined the Ian Williams team in 2019, and by the middle of last year the stable had found the key to him.
He was placed in extremely competitive mile or mile-and-a-quarter events at Yarmouth, Redcar, Sandown and Chester last summer, prior to winning a handicap over an extended mile at Wolverhampton in November. He didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs on that occasion, so had to show plenty of guts and determination to get the job done in the hands of Jim Crowley.
That most recent victory was achieved from an official rating of 71, yet just a handful of starts later Harlow is back down to the same mark. He has an excellent AW record and can surely win on an artificial surface again soon.
Although still a turf maiden, Harlow has shown his ability on the grass on numerous occasions, and his lenient-looking turf rating of 64 will surely be exploited during the 2021 flat season.
A good fun horse, who runs regularly throughout the year and handles a range of conditions, Harlow is sure to provide plenty of excitement for his owners in the months ahead.
