Deva Racing is delighted to present shares for sale in the lightly-raced four-year-old gelding Grimm Star. A son of the classy sire Cokoriko and from a smart family, he is based with Grand National winning trainer Dr Richard Newlandand starts his British career from the right end of the handicap.
Grimm Star is out of the unraced mare Beauty Blue, whose half-brother Quitto Bleu was a Listed-placed six-time winner over jumps and accumulated almost €200,000 in prizemoney.
His sire Cokoriko was a Listed-winning hurdler during a light racing career and is now developing a formidable reputation at stud. He rose from relative obscurity to break the French record for number of mares covered in a year in 2018.
The sire’s growing reputation is founded upon the exploits of Graded winning hurdlers such as Polirico, Five O’Clock and Fakiera, and with ever increasing numbers of his offspring set to appear in the seasons to come, the Haras de Cercyresident will become an even more familiar name in the future.
Grimm Star began his career in Ireland earlier this year, taking in three bumpers and four maiden hurdles. Although he remains a maiden for the moment, he hinted at promise on numerous occasions and was allotted an opening Irish mark of just 95.
Given his pedigree and physique, a figure in that region seems highly likely to underestimate his ability and potential. It is handy, therefore, that he has landed with one of the shrewdest trainers in the country in the form of Dr Richard Newland.
Best known for his handling of 2014 Grand National winner Pineau de Re, the Worcestershire-based trainer has operated at a strike rate above 20% for eight of the last 10 seasons and is highly adept at finding the right opportunities for his squad. Grimm Star is just the sort of project that he excels with.
Grimm Star remains an unexposed type with the potential to improve and he will surely find a winning opportunity soon. He could not be in better hands and has the look of a horse that can rack up a sequence of victories at some point in the future.
