Frequently Asked Questions
At Deva Racing we pride ourselves on providing owners with important information on the health and well being of the horses at our training establishments. On receipt of this valuable information you may feel it appropriate to have a wager. Please note all our horses will run on their merit on every occasion. Deva Racing is proud to support the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) initiative on insider information.
Deva Racing is not a betting organization and all information is given in our daily updates on our owners page, so there are no expensive phone lines to call.
If making money from gambling is your main reason for owning a horse then an alternative syndicate would be more appropriate for you.
If an unnamed horse is purchased, all the owners will be asked to provide a suggested name. These names will be collated by Deva Racing and a voting paper will be circulated. All owners will be eligible to vote for their favoured name. The name receiving the most votes, that is acceptable to Weatherbys will be used.
At Deva Racing we have over 14 years experience of racehorse ownership. The biggest lesson we have learned is that the most important aspect in owning a racehorse is the initial purchase. It costs the same to train and feed a slow horse as it does a Derby winner!
We use a well respected bloodstock agent with an excellent record in buying quality horses. All the horses we purchase will be vetted and scoped.
Deva Racing will act on behalf of the partners to select the trainer and jockeys. The criteria we use when selecting our trainers include:
- Looking for a training establishment that provides the horses with the best living conditions and gave the horses a stimulating environment in which to thrive.
- Our trainers must have a concern for the welfare of the horses.
- We also look for a trainer who is open and honest and actively encourages owners to the stables and gallops.
We invite anyone to come and have a look at the excellent facilities offered at Manor House and Bankhouse. All we ask is you contact us before your visit so we can give you the maximum attention.
At Deva Racing we have built relationships with a number of top jockeys. We will always use the best available jockey following discussion with the trainer, thus ensuring we protect the best interests of the horse and the owners.
All owners will sign a legal agreement explaining all aspects of their ownership. This document was drawn up by a solicitor using the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) guidelines. This agreement allows us to act on your behalf freeing you from some of the onerous tasks of ownership. Where an agreement needs amending for example if the owners wish to extend the syndication period a vote of all the partners will be taken.
All our partnerships are registered with Weatherbys and each partner is a registered owner. We also have all the prize and appearance monies paid into a partners account at Weatherbys. This again gives the partnership added protection. Owning a racehorse is great fun but we ask that all prospective partners consider their participation carefully before committing.
To protect your asset Deva Racing strongly recommend the purchase of our optional mortality insurance on your horse. We are able to provide examples of the partnership agreement on request. We would be happy to answer any questions you have on your rights and responsibilities.
There are a number of possible options and Deva Racing will discuss these options with the owners at the time, we will also share with you the recommendations of the trainer and the bloodstock agent.
On some occasions the horse may be sold and any monies received divided amongst the owners, less any costs.
Alternatively, the owners may wish to keep the horse in training. If all the owners vote to keep the horse in training a new agreement will be drawn up.
If most of the owners want to keep the horse in training but a minority would like to opt out, Deva Racing will negotiate the sale of the shares to existing owners based on the valuation of the bloodstock agent. If an agreement cannot be reached the horse will be sold.
Finally on some occasions the horse will be retired from racing. On these occasions Deva Racing will endeavour to find a suitable new home.
Our nominated charity is the Racehorse Rehabilitation Society and horse welfare will always be our number one priority.
